Casio has a history of collaborating with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, a professional baseball team in Japan, to put out limited-edition G-Shock watches. One notable model to have come out of the series is the DW-5600CARP-1JR from 2009, which has design elements inspired by the team's red color and logo. Now, another collab model between the team and Casio seems to be on the horizon.
The new Carp model - the GA-2100 Hiroshima Toyo Carp Edition - has been announced as a limited edition of just 2,000 units, set to launch on February 1, as per Great G-Shock World. Set to retail at ¥18,000 (approximately $115), the exclusive timepiece features the Hiroshima Carp’s signature red and black theme. The GA-2100 base, also known as the "CasiOak" for its octagonal bezel design, has a dial that incorporates the Carp logo accompanied by red indices and accents against a black background. The backplate is engraved with the team’s logo and a "Limited Edition" mark as well. As per the images we have so far, the watch comes packaged in a bright red tin box with the team’s branding on it.
Aesthetics aside, the GA-2100 Carp Edition is built with G-Shock’s shock-resistant construction, 200-meter water resistance, and carbon core guard structure. The watch has a lightweight build paired with a bio-resin band.
The watch is being distributed through a lottery system in Japan, with early access given to Carp fan club members. While this method is great for keeping scalpers at bay, it has also drawn a fair amount of criticism for making it difficult for international fans to secure a piece. For those who do manage to get their hands on one, it'll be a standout in any Casio collection.
