Gaming hardware suffering from limited supply is a story as old as, well, 2020. While the supply chain has mostly recovered, recent launches such as the Ryzen 9000X3D and Arc B570 indicate that meeting demand is still quite a challenge. If a recent forum post on PCGH is anything to go by, it appears that something similar will happen with high-end GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs, especially the GeForce RTX 5090, in Germany.
The post was made by a PCGH moderator who claims to have sources in Germany's "well-informed dealer circles". According to the moderator, Nvidia gets to decide which retailer gets the GeForce RTX 5090 at launch, and which does not. The moderator went ahead and listed out out a select few retailers, including Mindfactory, where customers will have the highest chance of being able to get their hands on the RTX 5090, or even the RTX 5080. Needless to say, the maximum number of units per customer will be limited to one.
Moreover, the moderator claimed that Amazon resellers will only receive stock of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 in the second, third, or even fourth waves, which will then likely be sold at a significant premium. Businesses and B2B retailers will be barred from scoring the GeForce RTX 5090 at launch, and will have to wait even longer, which is certainly good news for gamers.
That said, the poster did not divulge any details regarding global availability. However, it is not unfathomable for Nvidia to strictly control supply globally as well. Of course, the silver lining is that this decision may limit scalpers from doing their thing, but of course, how all of this plays out in reality remains to be seen.
