Deal | B&H offers US$100 off some new 16GB MacBook Pro 16-inch SKUs
B&H Photo Video has announced a US$100-off introductory price for the new 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, there are a couple of caveats to this offer for the discerning tech shopper. The units in question are the core i7 and i9 base models of this new Apple ultrabook. This means they will have only 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD capacity, whereas these machines are capable of going up to 64GB and 8TB respectively in these terms.
Accordingly, the units in this initial sale have either a 6-core 2.6GHz i7 or an 8-core 2.3GHz i9 processor. The latter of these does at least have the best GPU available to these late 2019 MacBook Pros: an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M. However, again, this component has 4GB of GDDR6 memory, whereas 8GB is an option in some other SKUs. Furthermore, the i7 makes do with an equally 4GB Radeon Pro 5300M.
The prices for these laptops are a relative (in Apple terms, that is) snap at $2299.99 for the i7 units, or $2699.99 for the i9 options. They come in Silver or Space Gray. Needless to say, their comparatively reduced specs are hardly B&H's fault: Apple has soldered the RAM and storage modules into these MacBook Pros as usual, so there is no way to upgrade them.
Therefore, a customer should be advised that if they opt for this early sale, they are stuck with what they buy for the life of their purchase. Accordingly, those looking for the basic Apple-owner cachet, or who can perhaps opt for such a PC for work, may get the best out of this (US-only) deal.
