Reviews for the Apple iPad mini

90% Review Apple iPad Mini Tablet | Notebookcheck
The new number one? Apple has now introduced a smaller tablet featuring a 7.9-inch IPS screen called iPad Mini besides its iPad 4. The older Apple A5 dual-core SoC and a lower screen resolution reduce costs. But will this also have an impact on performance and quality?
New Nexus 7 2 (2013) vs iPad Mini tablet comparison review: Apple's best value tablet can't beat the new Nexus 7
Source: Macworld.co.uk English Archive.org version
The original iPad mini is a really good deal. If I was investing in a new iPad it would be the one to go for. It's priced to shift and despite a display that has now been superseded by the best it remains a great device. But as Android has improved the Nexus devices have queered the pitch for everyone else. The Nexus 7 2 is not just cheap, it's really good too. And so if you are prepared to take a dive into the waters of Android, it is a great choice - and cheaper than the cheapest iPad.

But it's also more expensive, while the old model is still on sale at a lower price.Maybe you already own an iPad mini and are wondering whether to upgrade. The decision isn't easy, but we're here to help. Read on to find out whether to buy an iPad mini 2 or not.

Apple iPad Mini vs Google Nexus 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 comparison review
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
The Nexus 7 remains the best option for those on a budget - £159 is a steal. Apple's iPad mini is also a great device with a lot to like if you want to spend the extra money. While the Galaxy Note 8.0 is the most expensive (we await the cellular model price), you have to remember it's a phone and tablet in one device.

At £269, it's also the cheapest iPad you can buy – the iPad 2 starts at £329, the new iPad: £399. This fact alone will mean it adorning many a Christmas stocking this year. This isn’t to say that the bigger iPad doesn’t have a place, it does - at home. But in the wild and in positions that require you to hold it unaided for longer periods of time, the Mini steals the show. Whether you buy this over a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD comes down to your perception of value and image. But, with all considered, we’d say it was the best of its breed

The iPad mini is a premium small tablet, with a price to match. It's a shame Apple couldn't have included a Retina screen and newer processor - expect the next iPad mini to get those updates. This Wi-Fi only model also lacks GPS. It's not cheap by any stretch, especially if you want more storage spare or the 3G/4G cellular version, but it's great value compared to a full-size iPad. You can save £80 by buying a Nexus 7, which has double the storage, GPS and NFC, but if you must have an iDevice, it won't disappoint.

iPad mini Review

Although Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs once said “10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps”, Apple has recently seen the light and identified the sub-10” tablet market as viable, compelling and worth fighting for. To that end, the iPad mini was introduced, and at the end of the day, it is simply a small iPad 2 with a better camera.

This is a supremely well-built mini tablet that will almost certainly be a runaway hit with consumers. The smaller, dare we say cuter, size makes it nearly ideal as an eBook reader, as well as a device for all the other manifold tasks that are now possible from a collosal number of useful apps ready to install.

Summing up, the iPad Mini is a great device, featuring good build quality, brilliant software and surprisingly good battery life. The only drawback is that, as is the case for all Apple products, you pay a premium for the brand. Still, for those already invested in the Apple ecosystem, perhaps with an iPhone and Mac computers, the iPad Mini is a great choice for anyone seeking a tablet, with its iOS integration features more than making up for its slightly disappointing screen and A5 processor.

Apple iPad Mini vs Google Nexus 7 vs Amazon Kindle Fire HD head to head review
Source: V3.co.uk English Archive.org version
Overall winner: Nexus 7 Having put all three devices to the test, we have to say the clear loser is the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Boasting average performance and grating software, the tablet doesn't live up to the standards set by its iPad Mini and Nexus 7 competition, even if it is cheap. That said for new users not embedded within any ecosystem, we have to say the Nexus 7 does offer better value for money, costing £100 less than the iPad Mini while boasting better performance, albeit with slightly less solid build quality.

No matter what your fiscal sensitivities, though, you have to admire Apple for what it’s done with the iPad mini. It may not have a high-density display, or the latest silicon, and it might be a little too expensive, but its beautiful design, light weight, broad screen, great cameras and fantastic battery life set it clearly out in front of the compact tablet pack.

Impossible choice: you don’t own a tablet or an iPhone, but want a great tablet for home use or for travel entertainment. If watching movies, listening to music, basic email and web browsing are your main interests, you could get a much better deal with the Google Nexus 10 tablet ($399+) which obliterates the iPad mini for $70 more, or the Google Nexus 7 ($199) which is comparable to the iPad mini for $120 less. For a mere $20 more than the iPad mini, you can get a larger Asus Transformer TF300 tablet. Finally, you can also check Amazon’s Kindle HD devices, if your life revolves around consuming Amazon services.

As someone who's used the Nexus 7, I can tell you that the apps for that tablet are good. They aren't as good, but they're good enough to save you some money, and the lower price, sharper screen, longer battery life, and more comfortable one-handed form factor make the Nexus a better tablet overall. While we recommend the iPad mini, the Nexus 7 remains our Editors' Choice for small tablets.

Summing up Apple products can seem like déjà vu, as many of our opinions remain whether we’re looking at a Macbook or an iPhone. Like BMW or Dyson, you’re paying for the research, design, craftsmanship and brand association when handing over money for an iThing.

By all means, compare the tech specs and prices with those of the new wave of Android mini-tablets, and no doubt you’ll conclude that Apple has launched an overpriced and under-specced turkey. But make the effort to find an iPad Mini on display, pick it up and try it out for yourself. It’s only with the product in your hands that you’ll start to appreciate what makes it so special.

iPad mini Review: Apple aims for the everyman
Source: Slashgear English Archive.org version
As the pre-launch rumors proliferated, some questioned whether Apple really needed a product that slotted in-between the 4-inch iPhone and iPod touch, and the 9.7-inch iPad. Others questioned what sort of price bands Apple would target: whether the iPad mini would be a budget option to directly take on the spray of low-cost Android tablets.

If you think the iPad mini is just a small iPad, well, you’d be right. But it really needs to be seen to be understood. It’s tiny, light, and has great fit and finish. Its screen is good, but most definitely not of Retina quality. When you see one, and hold one, you’ll know if you want one. We’d direct you to your nearest Apple Store to check one out for yourself...but until November 2, you won’t be able to.

Even though Apple has the gorgeous design and user-friendly OS, and we’re sure the performance will be super speedy like its current iPhones and iPads, the price just doesn’t add up. Paying another £110 on top of the Kindle Fire HD’s price tag for a device that offers the same storage and high quality screen is a tough sell.

If the thought of dropping over £300 on a big iPad has stopped you from joining the Apple slab brigade so far, the iPad Mini should look very tempting right now. And if you’ve ever thought the iPad was just too big, or if you’re the kind of person who carries both a big-screen tablet and a Kindle every day, the iPad Mini could well be the only device you really need. It looks sexy, you’ll barely notice it in your bag, and it’s got the apps to back up that price tag.
