Anbernic releases K101 Plus refresh as $69.99 retro gaming handheld that can play Game Boy Advance cartridges
Anbernic has released quite a few gaming handhelds this year, arguably more so than its competitors. As far as we can tell, the company has offered up new hardware monthly since the start of 2024. Specifically, Anbernic has started selling the following devices this year:
Now, the company has introduced what appears to be its August hardware release. Unlike its recent launches, its latest model is actually a refresh of a device that is almost a decade old. This time, it has refreshed the K101 Plus, which started off life as the Revo K101 Plus in 2015 before being picked up by Anbernic in 2022.
Previously, Anbernic sold the K101 Plus in a red and gold finish that resembled some Game & Watch units (curr. $48.97 on Amazon). Although that option remains out of stock, a 'blue' alternative has now arrived in its place that bears more than a passing resemblance to the purple version of the GameCube. As far as we can tell, Anbernic has merely given the K101 Plus a lick of paint rather than also including upgraded internals. Consequently, the $69.99 handheld, which is available to order now from Anbernic, features the following hardware:
- 800 mAh battery
- 32 MB SDRAM
- 3-inch LCD, 320 x 480-pixel resolution (2:3 aspect ratio)
- AV out
- Dual CPU architecture with support for GBA cartridges
- Link cable
- Mini USB port
