Atari's new retro console not only evokes a heavy feeling of nostalgia but also allows owners to play their collection of Atari 2600 and 7800 games. The new console launches alongside two new controllers that can also be used with PCs.

The Atari 7800+ is the latest retro console from the popular game company. The new console is a modern take on the Atari 7800 ProSystem released back in 1986. Thanks to advancements in technology, Atari has made the new console smaller than the original. The Atari 7800+ joins the Atari 2600+ (available on Amazon for $129.99) in Atari's lineup of remade retro consoles.

Available to pre-order for $129.99 and with a winter 2024 release timeframe, the Atari 7800+ has an HDMI port, so it can connect to modern TVs, monitors, or even a projector if you wish. There is also the option to switch from widescreen to a 4:3 viewing option for that retro feeling.

The console is compatible with both Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 game cartridges, and according to the product page, it has ''near-perfect compatibility with original and third-party Atari games''. Those who owned the original console will be happy to know that the 7800+ has an enlarged cartridge socket to reduce sticking.

If you don't have any old cartridges lying around, the Atari 7800+ ships with a copy of Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. There's also a USB-C cable in the box, but buyers will have to provide their own power adapter

Alongside the Atari 7800+, the game company also announced the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad, which is a wireless version of the controller that shipped with the European variant of the original Atari 7800. The CX78+ Wireless GamePad costs $34.99, but you get a free unit with the Atari 7800+. It is also compatible with the original Atari 2600 and 7800 consoles, has an average battery life of 25 hours, and charges via USB-C.

There's also the CX40+ Wireless Joystick that's priced at $34.99, too. It is compatible with the Atari 2600+ and all original Atari systems using the included DB9 wireless adapter. Both controllers also work with a PC using the included USB-A adapter. The CX40+ has an average battery life of up to 30 hours and supports charging via USB-C. The two controllers are available for pre-order with a Winter 2024 release date.
