Deal | M3 Pro Apple MacBook Pro 14 with 1,000-nits mini-LED display drops to best price yet in Amazon sale ↺
Apple's MacBook Pro 14 line-up recently went on sale, with discounts of up to $500 becoming commonplace. However, the 11-core M3 Pro-powered MacBook Pro 14 has now also received the same discount for a 25% price reduction, and final price of $1,499 on Amazon.
Regardless of your opinion of the brand, it's hard to argue against what Apple has done with its MacBook Pro laptops in terms of balancing performance and efficiency. In our review of the MacBook Pro 14, we found efficiency to be one of the 11-core M3 Pro MacBook Pro 14's strong suits, with class-leading single-core performance and multicore performance rivalling the Intel Core i7-13700H and outstripping the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. What's more, the MacBook Pro 14 doesn't drop performance when on battery power, like many Windows laptops do.
The Apple M3 Pro 11-core takes a slight step back from the 12-core M3 Pro in both CPU and GPU power, coming in around 12% slower in multicore benchmarks. However, that sacrifice largely comes in the name of efficiency, as is demonstrated in our review. While outclassing much of the competition in terms of raw performance metrics, the MacBook Pro 14 also managed an impressive 16 hours and 19 minutes of video streaming over Wi-Fi.
Under load and at maximum screen brightness, however, the MacBook Pro 14 and its M3 Pro SoC lasted only 73 minutes, putting it behind the likes of the Gigabyte Aero 14 OLED (curr. $1,199 on Amazon). It's unlikely that you'll ever need to use the MacBook Pro 14 at maximum brightness, though. In our review of the MacBook Pro 14 with M3 Max, which uses the same 120 Hz mini-LED display, we measured a maximum brightness of 610 nits in SDR mode, with HDR mode pushing that up to 1178 nits across the whole panel or 1634 nits in smaller windows.
Of course, being a MacBook, the display also exhibits excellent colour accuracy, at 99.2% coverage of the Display P3 colour gamut and delta E values of 1.7 (where less than two is considered ideal for colour-critical work).
The $1,499 MacBook Pro 14 configuration in question also comes with 18 GB of unified memory and a 512 GB SSD, which should be plenty for everyday tasks and creative work, although creatives may want to plan ahead with additional external storage for bigger projects.
Check out the MacBook Pro 14 with M3 Pro on Amazon for $1,499. If you're more of a Windows lover, though, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16 Gen 9 offers competitive performance and a similarly bright mini-LED display, starting at $1,482 from Lenovo.
