M4-powered MacBook Pro scheduled for launch in the coming weeks, although an October event is now uncertain
Apple's M4 SoC was launched to an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers and reviewers alike. Ever since, Mac aficionados have been eagerly waiting for the powerful chip to grace the Mac lineup. Recent reports have consistently indicated that this is indeed about to happen soon, with several Mac models, including the MacBook Pro, set to receive the M4 treatment later this year.
As revealed by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman via his PowerOn newsletter, the M4 lineup, including the brand new M4 Pro and M4 Max SoCs, will debut on upcoming MacBook Pros as early as later this month. However, his most recent estimation is a bit more ambiguous, stating that the new M4 Macs are set to debut "later this year" — whether or not that indicates a slip in the widely assumed October launch date remains to be seen.
Apart from M4-powered MacBook Pros, the Cupertino behemoth is also expected to release a new Mac Mini, redesigned from the ground up, featuring a much smaller form factor courtesy of the M4 SoC's efficiency. The 24-inch iMac will also be upgraded to an M4 SoC, although the crystal ball remains murky on the possibility of a larger 27- or 32-inch variant with higher-tier chips.
However, those who have been holding out for an M4-based MacBook Air, Mac Studio, or even the Mac Pro might have some more waiting to do, considering that those are not expected to be unveiled anytime soon. Gurman estimates a Spring launch for the MacBook Air with the M4 SoC, while the Mac Studio and Mac Pro will be introduced later next year, likely during WWDC 25.
