OLED MacBook Pro unlikely to hit shelves before 2026, claim prominent analysts
Over the past few months, we have repeatedly covered rumors surrounding the fact that Apple will eventually switch to OLEDs for their MacBook Pro lineup. This claim has been reiterated by several well-established industry analysts, making the possibility all the more likely.
However, as per recent tweets by both Ming-Chi Kuo as well as display analyst Ross Young, the MacBook Pro lineup will continue to use mini LED displays in the year 2025. This aligns with previous expectations, which have hinted at OLED MacBook Pros seeing the light of day no sooner than 2026.
Needless to say, OLED displays will bring along several improvements over the currently used mini LED technology. These include an almost infinite contrast ratio, nearly instantaneous response times, and richer colors. Moreover, this would also allow for thinner displays, leading to an overall slimmer design for the MacBook Pro, which was previously forecasted by Mark Gurman.
However, these improved OLED displays will also bring along the dread of permanent panel burn-in, which might be a massive turn-off for the professional crowd that prefers to keep a lot of static elements on their screens. It will be interesting to see how Apple manages to mitigate these concerns, considering that such longevity issues should have no place in a multi-thousand-dollar Pro laptop.
