The well-known leaker Digital Chat Station has revealed some interesting information about the upcoming Redmi K40 series. Shared on their Weibo account, the leaker claims that all variants of the Redmi K40 will have high-refresh-rate displays and fast-charging functionality.
The inclusion of high-refresh-rate panels across the Redmi K40 series would make a change from this year's Redmi K30 range. Xiaomi has released eight smartphones under the Redmi K30 brand, from the regular Redmi K30 to the Redmi K30 Ultra and the Redmi K30 5G Racing. However, the series is a mess of display types. The Redmi K30 Pro has a 60 Hz AMOLED screen, for example, while the Redmi K30 has a 120 Hz IPS panel. To confuse matters further, the Redmi K30S has a 144 Hz IPS display.
A recent 3C certification has confirmed that Xiaomi's fast-charging capabilities may not be all that fast by modern standards, though. While many OEMs, including Xiaomi, have released smartphones that can charge at over 65 W, it seems that the Redmi K40 series may be restricted to 33 W. It is a minor complaint though, as 33 W will recharge smartphones within 60 to 90 minutes.
Xiaomi is believed to be using the Snapdragon 775G and Snapdragon 875 in the Redmi K40 series. Qualcomm is due to announce these chipsets in December, so we may have to wait until early 2021 before Xiaomi unveils its first Redmi K40 handsets.
