Qualcomm is developing a new Snapdragon 7xx series chip called the Snapdragon 775G, according to Roland Quandt. The prominent leaker and editor of WinFuture claims that the chipset is 'closely related' to the SM8350, which is another name for the Snapdragon 875.
Rumour has it that the Snapdragon 775G will be built on a 6 nm process, a 1 nm narrower process that Qualcomm uses for the Snapdragon 765G. Unsurprisingly, Quandt expects that the chipset will represent a 'rather massive upgrade' for the Snapdragon 7xx series.
While Quandt has not offered any performance numbers, Android Headlines and Sparrows News have. The websites predict that the Snapdragon 775G will have upwards of 40% faster CPU than the Snapdragon 765G, which Qualcomm will couple with a 50% more powerful GPU. However, it is unclear where the websites have got their numbers from. Either way, if the Snapdragon 775G bears a close relationship with the Snapdragon 875, it should offer substantial performance improvements over the Snapdragon 765G.
Quandt claims that the chipset has been assigned the codename Cedros and the model number SM7350, so we may see these pop-up in benchmark listings ahead of an official release. Apparently, Qualcomm is testing the Snapdragon 775G in a platform with a 120 Hz display, 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage. Android OEMs may not equip their devices with this hardware, but the testing platform could be indicative of what Snapdragon 775G will support.
It is unclear when Qualcomm will unveil the Snapdragon 775G. The company announced its predecessor in December 2019, so we may be under three months away from the unveiling the Snapdragon 775G. It could still take a few months more before any Snapdragon 775G-powered devices hit the market, though.
