A noted tech leaker has suggested that Redmi is working on a cheap Snapdragon 888 smartphone that currently has the codename “Haydn model K11”. It’s not known if this is a completely new smartphone line for Redmi or whether it could actually be the long-expected Redmi K40 or Redmi K40 Pro.

There are going to be lots of premium and expensive smartphones released in 2021 by major OEMs that feature the Snapdragon 888 chipset. The latest SoC from Qualcomm has already been winning plaudits for its exemplary performance, and it will likely feature in many of the big name launches for the coming year. Unsurprisingly, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi will want in on that action.

According to Digital Chat Station, Redmi already has something in the works that will sport the Snapdragon 888, and this mysterious smartphone now bears the codename “Haydn model K11”. It seems unlikely there will be a Redmi K11 smartphone released in the near future, as it could be confused too much with the Xiaomi Mi 11, which is also powered by the SD 888, and it doesn’t match the brand’s current numbering scheme: Redmi K20, Redmi K30, etc.

So this Redmi device might actually be a Redmi K40 model, with many opining that it may even be the Redmi K40 Pro, as the regular smartphone in the series is more likely going to have a midrange chipset. But a Redmi K40 Pro with Snapdragon 888 doesn’t have to be prohibitively expensive either, with the tipster stating the mystery Redmi phone could be “one of the cheapest” devices with Qualcomm’s flagship processor inside it.
