The Redmi K40 has been in the news for some time now, with leaked renders and spec leaks preparing fans for the next iteration in what has come to be Xiaomi's flagship-killing lineup. For the first time, however, official information about the phone has been revealed.
Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing, on Weibo a short while ago, confirmed that the brand is set to launch a new device with a Snapdragon 888 in the Redmi K40 series. Considering past releases, it's almost certain that the device with the Snapdragon 888 will be the Redmi K40 Pro, while the regular Redmi K40 gets a Snapdragon 700-series, possibly a Snapdragon 775G?
Lu Weibing also gave some more information about the series. For starters, the phone will offer a premium display. A 120 Hz AMOLED comes to mind. The phone will also be powered by a battery with a capacity larger than 4000 mAh. It's been a while since Xiaomi released a phone with a sub-4000 mAh battery, so that tells us nothing new.
Most interesting, however, is the fact that the Redmi K40 Pro will start at CNY 2,999. That's roughly US$465 and would likely make it the cheapest Snapdragon 888 phone on the market at launch, further cementing its reputation as a flagship killer. Either way, we won't have to wait for much longer as the Redmi K40 Pro will be launched next month.
