The Pebblebee Clip item tracker just received a new “Meet Alert” feature via a software update. Once the feature is configured in the Pebblebee app on Android or iOS, pressing the tracker's built-in button several times in quick succession is enough to activate emergency mode.
When the mode is triggered, the tracker will immediately send an SMS alert to the user's designated emergency contacts. Right now, only the user’s current static location is included in the message, but Pebblebee says it's already working on an option to share live location. The company emphasised that all location data is protected with end-to-end encryption and not stored on Pebblebee’s servers.
Activating the emergency mode also sets off a loud siren and causes the Pebblebee Clip’s LED strip to start flashing, potentially deterring a perpetrator and alerting anyone nearby to a dicey situation. The siren and LED can be disabled by repeatedly pressing the button again. If the alarm is accidentally triggered and then quickly disabled, emergency contacts will receive a second message informing them of the alarm cancellation.
Price and availability
The Pebblebee Meet Alert is free to use and doesn’t require a subscription. The Pebblebee Clip is available for $34.49 on the official online shop. Despite being slightly pricier than an Apple AirTag (approx. $23 on Amazon), the Clip offers a rechargeable battery that lasts up to twelve months, and supports both Apple’s Find My network and Google’s Find Hub.
