The Apple AirTag (from $24 on Amazon) is now more than four years old and doesn’t offer that many convenient features. For instance, it lacks an opening for attaching it to a keychain, a customizable button or a rechargeable battery. This is where Pebblebee’s new smart trackers come into play.
The Pebblebee Card 5 easily fits into wallets or backpacks thanks to its credit card-sized design. Its built-in battery lasts for up to 18 months before it needs to be recharged wirelessly on a Qi charging pad. Bright LEDs and a powerful speaker are supposed to make it easier to locate the Pebblebee Card 5 when it’s nearby. However, the gadget does not have a UWB chip. Nonetheless, a simple button press plays a sound on the connected smartphone, which might help locate it.
The Pebblebee Clip 5 offers the same 150 meters of Bluetooth range, speaker and LED, but its form factor makes it more suitable for attaching to a keychain or bag. The Pebblebee Clip 5 has a battery life of twelve months and can be charged via USB-C. A notable feature is the panic button. When it’s pressed multiple times, it triggers a siren and sends its current location to emergency contacts.
