The new Nomad Tracking Card Pro is the size of a credit card, but at 2.5mm it’s significantly thicker than the older Nomad Tracking Card. In return, the Pro model offers two upgrades.
First, Nomad advertises a higher-quality housing made of polycarbonate and aluminum. The minimalist design is modeled after premium credit cards like the Apple Card, so the Nomad Tracking Card Pro should be barely noticeable in a wallet. The thicker build also provides enough space for a larger battery, which gives the Tracking Card Pro a runtime of 16 months compared to the five months of the more affordable Tracking Card. Charging happens wirelessly on a Qi charging pad.
A special feature of the Nomad is that it contains enough metal to allow the Tracking Card Pro to be charged on a magnetic Qi2 or MagSafe pad. The card itself does not contain any magnets, so there is no risk of damaging the magnetic strips of other cards. The gadget weighs 0.53 oz and is IPX7 certified as well as waterproof. Tracking works just like with the Apple AirTag via Apple’s Find My app, although the card does not sport a UWB chip, so it cannot provide precise directions when the user is nearby.
