Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (2024) with a bright display, RTX 4070, and Thunderbolt 4
With the Predator Helios Neo 16, Acer offers a 16-inch laptop in their portfolio that targets gamers and creators. The necessary power comes from Raptor Lake and Ada Lovelace. The model of our test unit is not available (in Germany) yet at the time of the test, but you can get a sibling model with 16 instead of 32 GB of RAM for about 1,900 Euros (~$2,044). The most affordable model of the series at the time of the test costs about 1,500 Euros ($1,614).
With the Core i7-14700HX and GeForce RTX 4070, the laptop is well-equipped for rendering, video and image processing, as well as gaming. The CPU is accompanied by 32 GB of working memory (DDR5-5600, dual-channel mode), but it is also possible to expand the storage. The necessary storage capacity (1 TB) is provided by a fast PCIe 4 SSD that ensures short load times. The laptop is able to accept two PCIe 4 SSDs (M.2 2280).
The hardware is able to bring all the current games smoothly to the matte display, and usually you can select the full display resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and high to maximum settings. Via DLSS 3 and frame generation, maximum settings together with raytracing should also be possible in higher resolutions, but only as long as the game offers the corresponding support.
Realistically, a battery charge (90 Wh) will only last for around 4 hours, which isn't very long at all. We are unable to rule out a defect in our current test unit. But at least, the battery can be recharged using either of the two USB-C ports. Both of them support Thunderbolt 4, which should help with an easier integration into existing workplace setups and also open up some expansion options such as using an external GPU or docking station.
