Details about Dell's first ARM-powered XPS laptop are arriving thick and fast. To recap, a few days have now passed since Windows Report leaked official-looking images of the XPS 13 9345 and the Inspiron 14 7441 Plus, another forthcoming Snapdragon X series laptop. Now, VideoCardz has discovered an internal document relating to the former that remains publicly available on Scribd.
Please note that the document's origins remain unknown for now. Thus, while it could have been faked, its length and detail suggest otherwise. Upon first glance, it seems that the XPS 13 9345 maintains the design of the current XPS 13 9340 (curr. $1,599 on Amazon). However, the internal document highlights that Dell's engineers have updated various areas, including a revised cooling solution, plus a new display hinge that reduces the laptop's weight and thickness.
Additionally, the same document outlines a raft of new display options, culminating in an OLED option that has a 16:10 aspect ratio, as well as 400 nits peak brightness and a 2.8K resolution. Moreover, the XPS 13 9345 will be available with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5x RAM clocked at 8,400 MT/s, plus a 4 TB SSD and a 55 Wh battery that supports 60 W charging. Incidentally, Dell quotes the following target runtimes with the XPS 13 9345 paired with the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100):
Local video playback @150 nits | Netflix streaming @150 nits | |
---|---|---|
Sharp FHD+ panel | 29.6 hours | 20.4 hours |
Sharp QHD+ panel | 21.9 hours | 16.8 hours |
LG OLED panel | 16.8 hours | 11.7 hours |
As the image below shows, this battery life targets represent a huge uplift from the Intel Alder Lake-based XPS 13. With that being said, the XPS 13 9345 only achieves this by restricting the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100) to a 17.5 W TDP in its energy saving mode and 25.5 W in its performance mode, despite Qualcomm offering an 80 W peak power dissipation to OEMs. The document adds that Dell hopes to launch the XPS 13 9345 for approximately $1,199, although this price may have changed since the document's finalisation in late 2023.
Either way, the company has set a modest initial production volume of 241,000 units. Surprisingly, the XPS 13 9345 could remain on sale for roughly 18 months when it does launch, which indicates that Qualcomm may not unveil second-generation chipsets for a while yet. Seemingly, Dell is hoping to launch the XPS 13 9345 in June 2024, possibly as a new XPS 13 Plus.
