We had high praise for last year's Acer Nitro 17 in both Intel and AMD variants. This year, Acer is refreshing the Nitro 17 at CES 2024 with Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh options with no word on possible AMD Ryzen Zen 4-powered SKUs.
The Nitro 17 (AN17-72) can be configured with Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh options including the Core i5-14450HX, Core i7-14650HX, and the Core i7-14700HX along with GPU options up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU. Acer has enabled Advanced Optimus, which alleviates the need to restart the laptop while switching between MSHybrid and dGPU modes. Up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and up to a 2 TB NVMe SSD in RAID 0 can be installed.
Acer said that the Nitro 17 sports dual fan quad intake and quad exhaust systems, vector heat pipes, and liquid metal thermal interface material on the CPU to minimize throttling.
The Nitro 17 continues to use a 17.3-inch QHD 165 Hz display this year as well. The panel is slated to cover 100% DCI-P3 color space and offers a 3 ms response time but with overdrive. Port selection is also similar to what we've seen in the previous iteration. Networking is handled by a combination of Killer E3100G Ethernet and Killer Wi-Fi 6E with DoubleShot Pro.
The webcam continues to be a 720p sensor, but Acer is offering PurifiedView, an AI-powered solution to help with automatic framing, eye contact, and background blur along with a three-mic array that is PureVoice-enabled. A 4-zone RGB keyboard and a 90 WHr battery are some of the other niceties.
The Acer Nitro 7 (AN17-72) will be available in January starting from US$1,249.99.
