AYANEO has revised the design of the FLIP again, a month after it last teased the gaming handheld. To recap, the company revealed in September that its first clamshell gaming handheld would feature a D-pad reminiscent of one in the Xbox 360's controller. While it took Microsoft a generation to move away from its D-pad design, AYANEO has responded to consumer feedback before shipping the FLIP.
In its place arrives a conventional D-pad with a simple '+' layout. Theoretically, the newer D-pad should deliver preciser inputs when needed, such as 2D platformers. Additionally, AYANEO has increased the spacing between other gamepad buttons for improved ergonomics. The same applies to the device's keyboard keys, although AYANEO has reduced the size of each key cap to achieve this change.
Moreover, the AYANEO FLIP now has a wider hinge mechanism. However, the gaming handheld retains the look of having a floating display thanks to a centrally mounted hinge. Seemingly, other elements remain unchanged, including its 7-inch and 120 Hz IPS panel. The AYANEO FLIP is also expected to launch with AMD Ryzen 7040U APUs, with the Ryzen 7 7840U as a probable top model. Supposedly, AYANEO still intends to release the FLIP before the end of the year, which is only 11 weeks away.
