AYANEO FLIP KB and FLIP DS before January 2024 announcement

Nearly 18 months have passed since AYANEO first showcased the FLIP, which it debuted in June 2022. Initially, the company hoped to launch the FLIP in Q4 2022, a timeframe that also applied to the SLIDE, which is still in development. Since then, AYANEO has redesigned the FLIP several times, most recently in mid-October. Surprisingly, it then added a second model a few days later, which it distinguished from the original FLIP by adding a secondary display in lieu of a physical keyboard.

Now, AYANEO has shared more photos of the FLIP series, which it will eventually sell as the FLIP KB and FLIP DS on account of their built-in keyboard and secondary display, respectively. Incidentally, AYANEO has not mentioned which APUs will be available for the FLIP series, unlike the Ryzen 7 7840U that is headed to the SLIDE. Thus, we would not rule out the possibility of AYANEO bumping the FLIP KB and FLIP DS to the Ryzen 8040U series, which will also power the MINISFORUM V3 AMD Tablet.

At any rate, AYANEO has outlined a few uses for the FLIP DS' secondary display. On the one hand, it can show shortcuts for frequently used apps or device shortcuts. On the other hand, it has also hinted that the small display could be used to adjust performance characteristics on the fly, whether that be TDP, FPS or preconfigured profiles. Unfortunately, AYANEO is no closer to shipping the FLIP KB or FLIP DS. Instead, the company has confirmed that while development is progressing, it does not expect to be ready to unveil the series fully until January 2024 at the earliest.
