AUO to launch a slew of new high refresh rate gaming panels, including a 540 Hz option
According to MyDrivers, AUO is developing next-generation gaming monitors aimed at Esports players. Incidentally, AUO recently showcased AmLED displays with refresh rates that reached 480 Hz. Revealed last month at SID Display Week 2022, AUO also teased displays intended for use in automotive, laptop and tablet solutions.
Supposedly, AUO has a 540 Hz-capable panel in the works, eclipsing the ROG Swift 500 Hz that ASUS unveiled in May at Computex 2022. Unsurprisingly, outputting at 540 Hz is outside scope for all but the most powerful hardware. Allegedly, a combination of the Core i9-12900K, GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM can only achieve 350 FPS in Esports games, negating the need for a 540 Hz monitor altogether.
Perhaps more practically, AUO is also rumoured to be developing 4K monitors that can run at 240 Hz, and 2K ones that reach 360 Hz. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when AUO will release any of these monitors directly, nor how much they will cost if they do arrive. Presumably, other display OEMs will source these high refresh rate panels too, though.
