AMD's launch of the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT has proved to be a big success. Thanks to their impressive price/performance and considerably more stock than the paltry supply of the RTX 50 GPUs, AMD Radeon cards are currently selling quite well. The high sales numbers will undoubtedly have a positive effect on Team Red’s market share, allowing it to gain on Nvidia, which has dominated the market in recent years.
Speaking at a Team AMD Roundtable held in Japan, AMD Japan’s Marketing Manager, Yoshiaki Sato, stated that “Radeon’s sales share in Japan has reached 45%”. This figure is reportedly a record-high at 45%. However, Mr. Haraguchi, the representative of ASRock, expressed his desire for a 70% share as Team Red was still “below the majority”.
Moreover, AIB partners present at the event complained that they can’t manufacture as many Radeon cards as they want because there aren’t enough GPUs. In other words, the supply of Radeon GPUs, the Navi 48 in the case of the RX 9070/XT, is not enough, resulting in AIBs producing fewer cards.
So, if AMD can sort out this issue, the stock situation can improve even further which will push prices down, causing increased sales and even more market share gain for AMD.
The RX 9070 and 9070 XT are also flying off the shelves in the US
Japan isn’t the only place where the RX 9070 and 9070 XT are selling well. We reported previously that Team Red’s latest cards are moving quite well in both the UK and Germany. The cards are also among Newegg's best sellers in the US where two RX 9070 XT AIB models occupy 4th and 5th spots, sandwiched between other AMD cards like the RX 6600 and the RX 7900 XTX (Available on Amazon). For reference, the RTX 5080 is the only RTX 50 card in Newegg’s top ten best-sellers at the 9th place.
So, AMD currently has the momentum in this GPU generation. It remains to be seen if the company can keep its lead over Nvidia as we move into the entry-level/lower-midrange with the launch of the RX 9600 and RTX 5060 series.
