BYD is launching another car carrier soon to strengthen its exporting capacity. The BYD Changsha is its fifth overall and second 9,200-capacity vessel.

BYD is not slowing down anytime soon as it tries to expand its global reach. According to its post on Weibo, the automaker will soon launch car carrier number 5 to bring its wares closer to buyers outside China.

The company will soon welcome BYD Changsha to its ocean-going fleets. The new vessel can transport 9,200 vehicles at once and will join the BYD Shenzhen with the same capacity.

BYD names its vessels after its production hubs. The first was the BYD Explorer No. 1, a 7,000-capacity ship chartered from another owner. However, its first wholly-owned vessel was the BYD Hefei lifting 7,000 cars. Others include the BYD Changzhou, which sailed from China on its maiden voyage to Europe late last year with 5,000 electric cars in its hold.

The company has risen fast to become China's biggest new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer. It produced more than four million units last year, with more than 400,000 sold outside its local market. BYD's exports are on the surge, with 133,361 vehicles sent abroad in the first two months of 2025, up 125 percent year-on-year.
