BYD will launch a new podcast in Australia to educate listeners on electric vehicles. The Chinese automaker is collaborating with its distributor in the Down Under, EVDirect, on this new venture. The Charge Up Australia podcast will be anchored by environmentalist and former NSW Australian of the Year Jon Dee.
Charge Up Australia will offer the latest insights on the e-mobility sector without discriminating by brand. It will present case studies, EV buying and ownership tips, and sales news relevant to the Australian market.
The podcast will feature industry experts from within and outside Australia. The guest list for the first episodes includes Michelle Nazzarri, founder and CEO of FONZ electric motorbikes, Tim Washington, founder and CEO of JET Charging, Birdie Schmidt of the National Roads and Motorists’ Association, and Sarah Aubrey of Electrify This fame.
Dee says he is looking forward to busting myths about electric vehicles. “What we plan to do is separate fact from fiction. Australians are already driving 300,000 electric vehicles on our roads, but we need to see everyone driving an EV. That’s why it’s great to be in this podcast partnership with EVDirect and BYD.”
Aussies bought 5,684 purely electric vehicles in February 2025, down almost 50 percent year-on-year. The slump was majorly attributed to dwindling Tesla sales, but the American brand still topped the sales charts. BYD featured two models in the top 10: Sealion 7 and Atto 3.
