BYD will officially debut the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV on April 9th, making them the fastest-charging light-duty vehicles in production. They come with the new Super e-Platform, which enables boosting the driving range by up to 400 km in just 5 minutes.
The reveal event will take place in Beijing at 7 p.m. local time, according to a BYD post on Weibo. The company claims the new electric cars are groundbreaking flagships.
The Chinese automaker unveiled the ultra-rapid charging technology on March 17th, the same day it opened pre-orders on the Han L and Tang L. The sedan and SUV start at RMB 270,000 ($37,080) and RMB 280,000, respectively.
The Han L can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and the Tang L takes about one second more to reach the same speed. They are equipped with God Eye, BYD’s LiDAR-based response to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving.
The Super e-Platform achieves flash charging by supplying up to 1 Megawatt of power, double what Tesla’s Superchargers typically offer. BYD plans to install 4,000 new charging piles in China and promises about 500 of them will be ready before the Han L and Tang L start driving off dealerships.
