Tesla EV charger buyers will no longer benefit from B.C. Hydro’s EV rebates after the program eliminated products from the American company. The government-affiliated energy giant claims it aims to promote locally made solutions and “exclude, where practicable, U.S.-produced goods.”
Residents of British Columbia are entitled to a subsidy of up to $350 or 50% of the costs of Level 2 EV chargers. Other Tesla products affected by the ban include energy storage batteries like the Powerwall and inverters. However, Tesla products purchased before March 12, 2025, remain eligible.
Meanwhile, EV merchandise from other US companies is still on the list, featuring only four Canadian brands.
British Columbian offers a $4,000 rebate on new EVs under the Clean BC Go Electric scheme. It is unclear if Tesla electric vehicles would also be disqualified from this incentive. The US and Canada are currently embroiled in trade tariff wars initiated by the former, and prominent companies like Tesla will only be caught in the middle.
