XFX publishes free STL files for 3D printed AMD RX 9070 XT mods — even allows commercial use

3D printing enthusiasts can now print custom magnetic accent panels for their XFX AMD Radeon RX 9070 Quicksilver GPUs. XFX has also taken a surprisingly liberal stance when it comes to its designs.

The XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming Edition GPU is a fairly tame version of AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT, with a surprisingly reserved matte-black three-fan shroud. Today, however, XFX released STL files (3D models) of the removable shrouds on the Quicksilver cards, making them far more customisable for creative end-users.

GPU owners can use these 3D models to customise their XFX Quicksilver RX 9070 (curr. $649.99 on Best Buy) and 9070 XT GPUs with custom 3D-printed shrouds. XFX calls these removable shrouds Wings. There are two wings on each XFX Quicksilver RX 9070 and 9070 XT GPU — on the PCIe slot side, facing the motherboard, and another covering the XFX LED on the case side of the GPU.

When asked on X, however, XFX confirmed that the company will not pursue legal action against anyone who prints and sells the 3D-printable components.

"I can't say if we will sell them in the future, but XFX is cool with people making their own and offering them for sale!

We are excited to see what kind of customizations come from the mod community by releasing these 3D files."

The files are available for free to download via a link on XFX's RX 9070 Quicksilver product page, and the downloadable archive includes several versions of each shroud. XFX is clear to mention that magnets will need to be purchased separately in order to use mount the Wings to the GPU shroud.

STL models are included for the LED side of the GPU with and without the XFX logo, and both the LED-side shroud and the PCIe-side shrouds are available as both a single piece and split pieces. Splitting the parts up like that is a great choice from a customisability perspective — you could conceivably print the two parts in different colours or materials — but it also allows users with smaller 3D printers to print the shrouds without having to worry too much about where to split the component.

For more ambitious gamers with a bit of 3D modelling and CAD experience, these 3D-printable Wings present interesting opportunities for customisation — custom GPU support brackets or cable management attachments, for example.

XFX post on X grants permission to use 3D models for commercial purposes.
