Ubiquiti has introduced two new access points, namely the U7 Pro XG and the U7 Pro XGS. These devices support WiFi 7 (802.11be) on three frequency bands. The XGS variant is particularly strong in the 5GHz band due to an 8-stream design, and does not have to pause after radar activity.

Ubiquiti's new WiFi 7 access points have officially launched. The U7 Pro XG and U7 Pro XGS are both 802.11be access points, with the latter being slightly higher specced. For instance, it has a dedicated radio that can scan for interferences. It can also resume operation immediately after radar activity with a feature called "Zero Wait DFS".

The XGS further features a 4x4 antenna configuration for the 5GHz band. This potentially allows it to connect to more devices on this band than the XG model with its 2x2 setup. Theoretically, the maximum bandwidth for the XGS model is 8.6Gbps, the XG could achieve half as much. These figures refer to a 240MHz wide channel.

The new U7 Pro XG(S) access points are being offered in addition to the new dual-band U7 Lite, which is priced at just $99. However, these APs are also significantly more expensive and sell for $199 and $299, respectively. The maximum number of clients increases as well, from 200 to 300 on the XG and 500 on the XGS. Both devices support the 6GHz frequency band, which is known from WiFi 6E, but optional for WiFi 7.

Whether the new pair will replace the U7 Pro and U7 Pro Max is currently unclear. In the official Ubiquiti online store, these two older access points are currently sold out. The technical specifications of the Pro and XG, as well as the Pro Max and XGS, are very similar. There are some differences regarding the connectivity options, as the new XG(S) access points come with multi-gigabit ports including 5GbE and 10GbE. The old variants only offered 2.5GbE.

Last but not least, the new network devices are powered via Power over Ethernet and require 22 watts or even more at peak. Ubiquiti is already selling these new APs at its official store. They are even available in a black color variant, which previously required optional black covers.
