Ubiquiti Networks has announced that its first SuperLink products are now available. This marks the launch of the proprietary SuperLink protocol, which brings smart home functionality to large buildings and basically creates smart buildings. The wireless protocol has a range of up to 1.25 miles.
The first product is an environmental sensor, which Ubiquiti simply calls the Environmental Sensor. The device has sensors to measure certain metrics. For example, it can detect floods and measure humidity, ambient light and temperature.
The sensor can gather this information and can optionally be paired with a SuperLink siren. If certain thresholds are exceeded, the siren will make a loud noise with up to 110dB. While the siren connects via Power over Ethernet (PoE) with a maximum of 5 watts, the sensor itself can be placed anywhere since it’s powered by a CR123A battery. Ubiquiti promises a battery life of six years, as the SuperLink protocol is apparently quite energy-efficient.
Over the next few months, Ubiquiti plans to introduce more products. A siren without PoE, which will require four CR123A cells, is set to launch on November 25. On December 25, additional sensors for detecting glass breakage, opening or closing of doors and windows as well as motion will hit the market. Prices have not been unveiled yet.
The SuperLink gateway costs $129, while the PoE siren has an official price tag of $109. The aforementioned environmental sensor retails for $49, but it’s currently marked as "sold out" at Ubiquiti’s official online store for US-based customers.
