Back in the summer of 2004, SystemRescueCD 0.2.15 arrived with support for the i386 architecture and no default desktop. In 2007, it got i686 support and WMaker. After a two-year period with JWM, it moved to Xfce in 2009. Today, it only offers x86_64 support and uses Arch Linux as its base. The latest version, which is labeled 12.00, brings a few important changes to this live environment conceived to repair a system and recover data whenever possible in the aftermath of a crash.
In early December of last year, SystemRescue 11.03 landed with the LTS kernel 6.6.63 and Firefox 128.5.1 ESR. The 12.00 update comes with the 6.12.19 kernel and Firefox 128.8.0 ESR, as well as GParted 1.7.0, nwipe 0.38, and dump 0.4b49. In addition to these, there is also support for bcachefs and a workaround for the display issues that might affect grub on certain hardware configurations.
The list of updated packages is quite long, and it also includes bind 9.20.6, e2fsprogs 1.47.2, glibc 2.41, kmod 34.1, mesa 25.0.1, openssh 9.9p2, openssl 3.4.1, perl 5.40.1, Python 3.13.2, qt 6.8.2, samba 4.22.0, systemd 257.4, as well as xfdesktop 4.20.1 and xorg-server 21.1.16. The list of tools included is as comprehensive as usual, covering areas such as storage and disk partitioning, file system, network, remote control, security, recovery, secure deletion, file management, hardware information and testing, but also text editing, web browsing, file management, or scripting.
