Roughly three months since elementary OS 8, the 8.0.1 update lands with a new kernel alongside multiple minor changes. The list of areas that received tweaks includes the AppCenter, Files, Terminal, System Settings, Installer, and more. The ISO file is 3.3 GB in size, and the installation needs at least 32 GB.
In the three months that have passed since the release of elementary OS 8.0, the team behind this Ubuntu-based distro with a macOS-inspired interface has been busy ironing out various problems and further improving the look and feel of this piece of code.
Now, version 8.0.1 is available for download, and the essential element of the list of changes is the latest Ubuntu LTS Hardware Enablement Kernel 6.11, which has been included thanks to the Ubuntu 24.04.2 foundation. This kernel allows most users on new AMD platforms who had hardware support-related issues in version 8 to forget about those problems, but its benefits are also targeting various components from other brands as well.
The AppCenter now sports dark-mode brand colors and screenshots, and when developers provide screenshots for multiple desktops, the ones intended for Pantheon are being used.
Files and the terminal got several fixes. The issue that prevented entering file paths in search mode, for example, is now history.
System Settings notifications can now be configured in the Notifications area.
Update checks no longer take place while in Demo Mode.
The crash that occurred with certain partitioning schemes in the Installer custom install view has been fixed.
Five potential crashes in the window manager have been addressed.
Other problems have been ironed out as well, including Lock Screen freezes when connecting Bluetooth devices. Most translations have been updated as well. The download is available via the pay-what-you-want model as before, but the $0 remains a valid choice. The ISO file is 3.3 GB in size. The recommended system specs include a dual-core 64-bit processor, a display with 1024 x 768 pixels, 4 GB of memory, and at least 32 GB of free disk space.

In my early school days, I hated writing and having to make up stories. A decade later, I started to enjoy it. Since then, I published a few offline articles and then I moved to the online space, where I contributed to major websites that are still present online as of 2021 such as Softpedia, Brothersoft, Download3000, but I also wrote for multiple blogs that have disappeared over the years. I've been riding with the Notebookcheck crew since 2013 and I am not planning to leave it anytime soon. In love with good mechanical keyboards, vinyl and tape sound, but also smartphones, streaming services, and digital art.
