AMD's Radeon RX 9070 RDNA 4 GPU launch has been an odd one full of smoke and mirrors. Although the existence of the new architecture and GPUs was confirmed at CES 2025, very little was revealed regarding specifications or performance. Since then, a series of leaks and rumours have trickled out, giving us an indication of what to expect from the new GPUs.
The latest in the series of leaks comes out of Danish retailer Foniks, who has prematurely listed the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT GPUs on its website. Unfortunately, however, there's not much information to glean from the listings aside from confirmation of the RX 9070 and 9070 XT VRAM quantities and a potential retail launch date.
While we've previously seen leaks claim that the official launch date for the RDNA 4 GPUs would be January 15, it now looks like retail availability will start on January 23. Pricing seems as-yet unconfirmed, since the converted price of the GPUs, according to the Foniks, exceeds $1,000 ($1,048 for the RX 9070 and $1,282 for the XT variant).
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT specs leak by Geizhals
The Foniks listing also confirms previous rumours that the RX 9070 and 9070 XT will both feature 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. This is backed up by another recent retail leak by Geizhals, which provides far more details on the specifications.
According to the German retailer, the Gigabyte Aorus AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Elite it listed ahead of schedule will have a 256-bit wide memory bus, 64 compute units, meaning 4096 stream processors, 256 TMUs, 96 ROPs, and 64 RT cores. This falls somewhat short of the current generation AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT (curr. $719.99 at Best Buy), which packs 5,376 stream processors, 84 RT cores, and 84 CUs.
Of course, raw specifications aren't comparable across GPU generations, and much of the Geizhals information could still be placeholder text — although a lot of what's present there is already confirmed, like the RDNA 4 architecture and the 16 GB of VRAM, so it seems unlikely. Similarly to Foniks, Geizhals quotes January 24 as the retail availability for the RX 9070 series.
