AMD has finally broken its silence about its upcoming desktop graphics cards. David McAfee, CM of AMD's Radeon division, has confirmed via an X post that people will be able to buy them in March 2025. A launch event with detailed specs and features should happen prior. Unfortunately, an exact date isn't specified for either, meaning you might have to wait for up to two months to get your hands on the top-spec Radeon RX 9070 XT.
Plus, it isn't clear how many SKUs AMD plans to launch at that time. The Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 will definitely make the cut, but AMD has maintained pin-drop silence when it comes to lower-end Navi 44-powered SKUs. Many would argue a March release date is a bit too late because Nvidia'a Blackwell-based GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will already have been out by then.
Nevertheless, this lays to rest rumours about RDNA 4 debuting on January 23. The Radeon RX 9070 XT is rumoured to cost between $479 and $550 at launch. If recent leaks about its performance are accurate, it sits between a GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 Super depending on the title. On paper, the RX 9070 XT could take on Nvidia's Geforce RTX 5070 in rasterization, but might lose out due to AI-powered trickery such as DLSS 4.0 and multi-frame generation.
