A new, huge Fallout mod was just released... for Fallout: New Vegas
Are you ready for the newest Fallout game? No, not Fallout 76. We’re talking about Fallout: New California, a huge mod of Fallout: New Vegas that was just released.
New California was released on October 23rd after seven years of development and is essentially a brand new Fallout adventure. It presents a new story, set about 20 years after Fallout 2. New California acts as a prequel to Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, focusing on the aftermath of the New California-Enclave War. In fact, a completed save file for New California can transition into a new playthrough of New Vegas if the rights New Vegas mods have been installed.
While most mods of this caliber are impressive, New California is in a league of its own. The mod uses a new map that is about 65% as large as that of New Vegas, new character models, and over 17,000 unique lines of spoken dialogue that were recorded just for this game. New California should take most players about eight hours to complete, but the creators say there’s about 20-30 hours worth of content. There are also 13 possible endings, which should encourage multiple playthroughs.
The mod is completely free and relatively easy to install. If you have a PC version of New Vegas, installing the mod is as easy as downloading the files from ModDB, loading them into your mod manager of choice (Nexus Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 are recommended), and go through the prompts. If you haven’t downloaded New Vegas to your PC, the mod makers recommend downloading the version from GOG.com, as GOG already includes a necessary 4 GB patch. It should be noted that this will work with the vanilla version of New Vegas; the mod doesn’t require the Ultimate Edition or any New Vegas DLC.
