The Shark 3 looks a lot like its fellow 8849 toughphone the Tank 3 Pro with its large, rear-mounted emergency LED light - however, the former has ditched the massive 23,800mAh battery and onboard projector of the latter for a more streamlined, modern look.
It still has a capacity of 11,600mAh, however, and can double as a power bank for other devices. The Shark 3 also has the same 120W charging unmatched in other premium smartphones, even the 100W OnePlus 13.
The new device is also touted as a rugged smartphone for photography enthusiasts, as its 64MP night vision camera is joined by dual 50MP cameras on the rear panel, one of which is a Samsung ISOCELL GN1 and the other of which has a telephoto lens.
The Shark 3 also even has a more or less up-to-date quad-curved 120Hz AMOLED display with a single punch-hole and a resolution of 1440 x 3200 - although it is driven by the mid-range Dimensity 8300 processor from 2023 - although that is still an update over the 8200 of the Tank 3 Pro.
The SoC also powers a UI based on Android 14 rather than 15, although the OS can extend its premium 16GB of RAM to as much as 32GB in its software.
The 8849 Shark 3 currently has $100 off its $599 RRP, while the Tank 3 Pro is currently $629.99. It has been released direct via the OEM, and is slated to become available on Amazon by the end of April 2025.
