The Chinese rugged smartphone manufacturer, 8849, has expanded its Tank series rugged smartphone portfolio by introducing a new Tank 4 Pro smartphone globally. The Tank 4 Pro smartphone comes as a direct successor to the Tank 3 Pro (curr. available at $719 on Amazon) and brings significant upgrades in terms of performance, display, and overall design.
Let’s start with the design. The new Tank 4 Pro is now lighter and slimmer than before. More specifically, it measures 174.9 x 87 x 22.5 mm (6.8 x 3.4 x 0.88 inches) and weighs 530 grams (1.1 lbs). By contrast, the last-generation model measures 31 mm (1.2 inches) in thickness and weighs 666 grams (1.4 lbs), 136 grams more than the latest iteration.
The 5G-enabled rugged smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset paired with 16/18 GB of RAM and 512 GB/1 TB of internal storage. Software-wise, it runs Android 14 out of the box, and there’s no word on software support from the brand. The Tank 4 Pro features a triple rear camera setup at the back consisting of a 50 MP Samsung S5KGN1SP primary camera, a 64 MP night vision camera, and a 50 MP telephoto lens.
Upfront, it has a 32 MP shooter (down from 50 MP of the Tank 3 Pro) for selfies and video chats. The main highlight of the rugged phone is its built-in 720p laser autofocus DLP projector that features keystone correction and delivers 100 lumens of brightness and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
The display of the smartphone is now better than before. The Tank 4 Pro features a 6.73-inch AMOLED display (up from the 6.79-inch LCD panel of the Tank 3 Pro) with a resolution of 3200 x 1400 pixels and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The device boasts a massive 11,600 mAh battery that supports 120 W fast charging.
The 8849 Tank 4 Pro smartphone is priced at $649 for the base 16 GB + 512 GB model and the top-end 18 GB + 1 TB variant retails at $699. The device is now available for pre-order via 8849’s official website, with shipping starting in late June 2025.
