EE launches the UK's first 5G network

The carrier EE held an event today (May 22, 2019) that launched its 5G services in the UK. The new radio standard will use the band n78 in this country. It is thought that approximately 5 networks will come to use it over time; however, EE will be the first to do so.

EE also announced the availability of a number of devices that can use its new band. They are the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, LG ThinQ V50, OPPO Reno and HTC's 5G hub. The 7 Pro 5G is the latest of these phones to be released. Its maker has asserted that it will have more or less the same dimensions as its 4G counterpart. This phone will be exclusive to EE in the UK.

Like the other new EE devices, it is powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor, couped to a Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the Qualcomm RF Front-End solution for the new bands. These 5G products will be connected to their optimal network on May 30, 2019. On this day, EE plans to activate its new services in 6 major cities: London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester. 10 others - Glasgow, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry and Bristol - will join them at a later, heretofore unspecified date.
