1,100 nit OLED, below 1 kg: Lenovo launches new super portable 14-inch laptop

Lenovo initially debuted the ThinkBook 14x in late June with the Intel Lunar Lake CPUs. Just a few months later, Lenovo has now launched the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 powered by the Intel Wildcat Lake chips, alongside a new variant of the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9. The new ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 retains the metallic design and ultraportability of the earlier ThinkBook 14x.

The new Lenovo ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is just 12.9 to 15.6 mm thick and weighs only 990 g (2.18 lbs). The laptop brings Intel Core 7 processors (Series 3), up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x-7467 RAM, and 2 TB of storage. You can upgrade the storage of the laptop down the line thanks to the presence of one M.2 2242 (occupied out of the box) and one M.2 2280 SSD.

The insides of the laptop are rounded off by a Wi-Fi 6E/7 chip and a 54.7 Wh or 65 Wh battery that can be charged with the included 65 W Type-C adapter.

The front of the laptop is occupied by the 14-inch 120 Hz display. Users can choose between:

• A 1200p, 120 Hz IPS panel with 400 nits brightness and 100% sRGB
• An 1800p, 120 Hz OLED with 500 nit SDR/1,100 nit HDR brightness and 100% DCI-P3

The IPS panel can optionally be outfitted with touch support. On top of the display, there is an FHD webcam with an IR blaster for secure facial login.

For ports, we are looking at:

• Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports
• Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports
• An HDMI 2.1 out
• A 3.5 mm audio jack

There is no SD card reader on board, which makes sense since the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is not a creator laptop.

Finally, the Lenovo ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 will be available in four colorways: Celestial White, Luna Grey, Veil Blue, and Mystic Violet.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 will be available in Q1 2027, at a starting price of $999.99.
