New Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 laptop launches with bigger battery and new SoC

Lenovo brought the Intel Panther Lake chips to the masses in February 2026 with the launch of the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 and the ThinkBook 16 Gen 9. In our review of the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 9, we measured better battery life than the Gen 8 offering and also praised the laptop for its keyboard, port selection, and affordability.

Lenovo has now updated the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9, alongside the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2, with the Snapdragon X2 Plus SoC and a slightly bigger 50 Wh battery.

The new Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 with the Snapdragon X2 Plus is largely similar to the Intel Panther Lake variant, with a few changes. The biggest change is the ARM-based Snapdragon X2 Plus SoC with a 25 W TDP that brings better single-core, multi-core, iGPU, and NPU performance than the Snapdragon X Plus. Lenovo combines the Snapdragon X2 Plus with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x-9523 memory, a 1 TB SSD, and a 50 Wh battery.

Fortunately, you aren’t really stuck with only 1 TB of storage, as there is a second M.2 2280 SSD slot for storage expansion.

Moving on to the front of the device, the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 will be available with a 14-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) IPS panel with a 60 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of max brightness, and optional touch support. Sadly, Lenovo is only offering a modest 45% NTSC panel, one of the biggest complaints in our review of the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9.

For ports, we are looking at:

• Two Type-C connectors
• Two Type-A ports
• One HDMI out
• One 3.5 mm audio jack
• An SD card reader
• A Kensington Lock

Finally, Wi-Fi 7, a backlit keyboard, an FHD webcam, and two 2 W speakers complete the package. The laptop measures 17.39 mm thick and starts at 1.3 kg (2.87 lbs).

Lenovo announces that the ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 with the Snapdragon X2 Plus will be available from October 2026 at a starting price of $1,299.
