The Switch 2 is out with major hardware improvements over the original Switch, but a few points of criticism as well. What’s undoubted is the performance it delivers compared to the predecessor allowing it to run AAA titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Hitman: World of Assassination, and more. Another major AAA title that has been rumored to arrive on the Switch 2 is Red Dead Redemption 2 and as per the latest leak, the port is very much alive and coming this year.
The information comes from known leaker Nate the Hate who hosted a podcast with guest Rand al Thor discussing the upcoming Xbox Showcase. During the discussion, around the 10-minute mark, Nate the Hate states, “Those rumors are true. Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next gen update and the game will be coming to Nintendo switch 2 later this year.” He goes on to add that it might be in the late-summer, early-fall window.
This comes after Red Dead Redemption 2 was rumored to be part of the initial game lineup for the Switch 2, but that did not come to fruition. Moreover, there has been no update from Nintendo about the Rockstar western coming to the handheld. If it does, it would be a welcome addition to the AAA portfolio.
A next-gen upgrade patch for the game was also tipped back then, and has been mentioned again. The patch should bring performance improvements to the PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles, something that has been missing since launch
As for the criticism surrounding the Switch 2, its display has been reviewed and found to be lacking in some aspects like brightness and contrast ratio. Also, the Welcome Tour tech demo, which should ideally have been a free download, requires additional accessories to be fully completed.
