Borderlands 2 is now free to keep on Steam until June 8, 2025. However, it's worth noting that recent EULA changes have led to privacy concerns and a surge of negative reviews from the community.

Nearly every early 2010s gamer is familiar with Borderlands 2. It's an acclaimed looter-shooter from Gearbox Software, and for the first time, it is currently available for free on Steam as part of a limited-time promotion. Players who claim the game before June 8, 2025 can add it permanently to their Steam library.

This giveaway is a neat opportunity for new players to experience the game's first-person shooting and role-playing mechanics, as well as for returning fans to revisit its expansive content. However, the promotion coincides with a wave of negative reviews on Steam, primarily due to recent changes in Take-Two Interactive's End User License Agreement (EULA).

In May 2025, Take-Two updated its EULA across its titles, including Borderlands 2. The revised agreement includes clauses that allow the collection of personal information such as names, usernames, IP addresses, and operating systems. Additionally, it also includes restrictions on unauthorized modifications and exploits. These changes have raised understandable concerns among players about data privacy and the future of modding within the game community.

The community's response has been pretty swift, to say the least. Borderlands 2 has experienced a surge of negative reviews on Steam. Players have explicitly expressed dissatisfaction with the perceived overreach in data collection and potential limitations on modding.

Despite these issues, Borderlands 2 undoubtedly holds its spot as a key title in the action RPG genre. Since its release in 2012, it has received accolades for its engaging gameplay, unique art style, and memorable characters. The game has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and still has an active player base.

For those interested in experiencing Borderlands 2, you can do so now without any financial commitment. You can check out the Steam Store page for the game here.  However, potential players should be aware of the recent EULA changes and consider how they align with personal preferences regarding data privacy and modding capabilities.
