Walmart recently released its latest streaming device, the Onn 4K Plus. The new streaming box hit store shelves weeks ago and has also been listed on the Walmart website since then. Similar to other Onn series models, it also punches well above its weight.
As tested by AFTVnews, the new Onn 4K Plus delivers excellent performance thanks to the new Amlogic S905X5M powering it. The streaming box scores 1,146 and 3,131 on Geekbench's single-core and multi-core tests respectively, scores only surpassed by Amazon's Fire TV Cube 3 and Fire TV Cube 2 among modern devices.
Interestingly, the Onn 4K Plus also outperforms its sibling, the Onn 4K Pro—a device positioned higher than it in the lineup. The Onn 4K Pro scores 833 and 2,050 on the same respective tests. Google's TV Streamer 4K (buy on Amazon) sits somewhere between the two, with scores of 917 and 2,527 on the single-core and multi-core tests.
All of these numbers point towards a single conclusion: the Onn 4K Plus is a price-performance champion. For some perspective, it costs $30, versus the Onn 4K Pro's $50 MSRP and the Google TV Streamer 4K's hefty $100 price tag. Admittedly, the Fire Cube 3 is another excellent option for those willing to put up with the eccentricities of Fire TV, as it costs just $100 now.
It's worth pointing out, though, that there's more to a streaming box than raw CPU performance. The Onn 4K Plus does feature most of the essentials, however—WiFi6, a Type C port, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, find my remote, and support for the popular codecs and formats.
