Many Volkswagen ID.Buzz owners have not hidden their displeasure at the omission of one feature: cupholders for the second-row seats. This makes it tricky for passengers to enjoy a drink or coffee while using the phone or other gadget. However, the German carmaker is making things right, as it will release the accessory in June.
Volkswagen confirmed to InsideEVs reporter Kevin Williams that the cupholders will be sold in pairs. They will work with the bench seat and captain’s chair configurations. An extra feature is that they will also accommodate smartphones.
The cupholders can be installed on the inside of the captain’s chairs, which is a more convenient location than facing the door. The setup is flexible enough to install a complete set on just one chair.
Volkswagen did not include a price but said the accessory should cost less than $100. Buyers can order online or go into a Volkswagen dealership to get it.
There is no photo of the cupholders, but more information should arrive as the release date nears. While it is good to see Volkswagen address a common complaint, paying for a feature that most modern vehicles offer as standard might rub some owners the wrong.
