OnePlus and OPPO smartphones to adopt Gemini and Cloud AI from Google
Smartphones from twin brands OPPO and OnePlus have begun to pick AI photo-editing features up in 2024. They are based on the OEM's own AndesGPT model - however, they are to be augmented by others direct from Google soon.
OnePlus co-founder and OPPO Chief Product Officer Pete Lau has announced that the brand now aims to beat other brands to be first with Gemini-capable smartphones on the market this year. This, ideally, involves support for AIGC features that leverage progressive machine learning to "empower user creativity" while maintaining device performance.
These "game-changer" features may include Google Cloud-based AI search, as well as the ability to generate text summaries of audio recordings. Lau has also indicated that they may be the first of over a hundred "AIGC experiences" to become unlocked on smartphones from OnePlus (and also possibly OPPO) over the next 3 to 5 years.
