Visual Studio Code 1.88 released with a host of new features
Alongside several development environments from the company JetBrains, competitor Microsoft offers Visual Studio Code, often referred to as VS Code, a comprehensive source code editor that can be extended with plug-ins. The March update of VS Code, version 1.88, has recently been released, bringing improvements in the areas of Copilot, Source Control, Editor, Workbench and accessibility.
The Visual Studio Code 1.88 update allows you to set custom labels for editor windows, making it easier to distinguish between editors with identical file names, for example. Another useful feature of the new version is locked scrolling, which allows multiple editor windows to be scrolled synchronously. Among other things, this makes it easier to compare code passages in different files.
VS Code is also known for its numerous extensions for different programming languages or additional functionalities. It is therefore good to learn that the extensions can now be updated without having to restart the development environment. The Copilot also receives new features such as a revised inline chat interface, commit messages and the display of references used.
Other new features in Visual Code 1.88 include the introduction of a Test Coverage API to support native code coverage in VS Code, collapsible markers in the minimap, and a revamped quick search.
