Eclipse Theia 1.48 brings code editor secondary window support to the development environment
The Eclipse Theia team has processed no less than 53 pull requests for release 1.48 and two new developers have joined the project. Eclipse Theia consists of a platform for building development environments and tools for the web or desktop, and a separate IDE for cloud and desktop use by software developers called the Eclipse Theia IDE (formerly Theia Blueprint). The Theia IDE is currently in beta.
"Theia 1.48 adds support for detaching editors from the main window and using them in secondary windows. This allows users to create their own workbench layout composed of several windows, which is especially useful in multi-monitor setups," the developers write in the blog entry for the current release, describing what is probably the most important new feature.
Secondary windows were already supported by Eclipse Theia, but were limited to Terminal and WebView. Now this functionality can also be used in the standard code editor. Files in the current workspace can now also be clicked on in the integrated terminal, which will open the corresponding file in the development environment.
The Eclipse Theia IDE, which can be downloaded directly for Windows, Linux or MacOS, or tried online for 30 minutes as a cloud version, has also received a number of improvements in version 1.48. For example, the metrics for analysing the performance of Electron applications are now easier to use. In addition, the notebook editor, which combines documentation and separately executable code areas similar to the well-known Jupyter notebooks, has been significantly stabilised.
Further changes to Eclipse Theia and the associated Theia IDE in version 1.48 can be found in the development team's blog entry.
