This new technology for netbooks gives more control in users’ hands
NVIDIA will make Optimus, their latest technology for portable computing, available by next week – as reported by Softpedia. NVIDIA gave a hint about this new technology back in early last month during the CES. Now the California-based graphics card giant is expected to officially announce this new technology on 9th of February.
Optimus will primarily allow the user to switch between discrete and the integrated graphics chips, so as to give the power in the hands of the end-user of when to use this power. This freedom will let the user use the power of the discrete graphics chip – but only when needed. This will help maintaining the battery life and thus mobility.
Currently NVIDIA has only the GeForce 9400M integrated graphics chips for the netbooks that come with Intel processors. As they extend their portfolio to the CPUs as well with the ION and then Tegra, this move will let them come with a complete NVIDIA package to the netbook market – giving the end-user more all the more options.
