The new display panel will increase reading pleasure and battery life

One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is a project dedicated to the children mainly in the developing countries, which has a number of sponsors (Marvell for example) in US that strive to make very affordable notebooks with as best a technology as possible. The XO brands of laptops are particularly famous in this aspect, which recently undergone a processor change from AMD to VIA.

Now Slashgear reports that the XO laptops will go another updation by planning to employ low-power Pixel Qi display panels. This would go a long way in increasing the battery life of the notebooks, at the same time reducing the overall cost. The low-powered screens should also be easy on eyes, thus helping in reading for long duration.

This project has been in the pipeline for a while since the time Pixel Qi founder Mary Lou Jepsen was an OLPC member. Not only the displays, OLPC gets the rights of over seventy patents currently held or in process by Pixel Qi, giving full license to the dual-mode XO panels in return.
