According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple will opt for OLED displays in both iPad Pro models and the MacBook Air in 2024. This would be a change for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which currently uses a mini-LED panel, and the MacBook Air and iPad Pro 11, which both use IPS LCDs. Young also claims these devices, including the MacBook Air, will support Apple's ProMotion technology with a 120 Hz variable refresh rate.

Just last year, Apple introduced an iPad Pro with mini-LED. The relatively new display technology gave the 12.9-inch tablet one of the best displays on the market, but Apple may soon abandon mini-LED for OLED if rumors are to be believed. Additionally, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro may not be the only Apple device switching to OLED.

According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple will opt for an OLED panel in both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros in 2024. The 2024 MacBook Air will also use an OLED display, per Young. This is in line with predictions others made earlier this year concerning Apple's potential use of OLEDs in its MacBook line.

This would mark the first use of OLED in both an iPad and MacBook product. Currently, Apple's iPads use IPS panels (with the exception of the aforementioned 12.9-inch iPad Pro), and all MacBooks except the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16 use IPS. The MacBook Pro 14 and 16 both use mini-LED.

Young has previously stated that both iPad Pros and the MacBook Air would utilize a "two-stack" OLED panel, which would have two emission layers for red, green, and blue colors.

It is also widely speculated that Apple's ProMotion will also eventually come to the MacBook Air, bringing it in line with the MacBook Pro 14 and 16. However, there is little more than guesswork to support this rumor. Considering the MacBook Pro 13 has yet to include ProMotion, it remains a long shot that Apple will pop the refresh rate in the cheaper MacBook Air up to 120 Hz.

As with all rumors, take this one with a grain of salt. If this rumor is to be believed, it will be over a year before we see an OLED MacBook Air or iPad Pro.
